Keys to A Successful Semester
Roberto Muñoz
Winter break is over and the spring semester is
officially under way. For some of you, this may be your first or second
semester of college, and for others, such as myself, the last. Whether this is
your first or last semester, there are some things that are for sure: you want
to perform to the best of your abilities, earn the best grades possible, and
learn things you will be able to use in your future careers. Many students
decide to purely focus on the academic side of things and forget about their
personal lives. It is always important to keep a balance in everything you do
if you wish to perform at a high level. Here are some tips that will,
hopefully, help you have a successful semester all around.
1. Mark special dates on your calendar. With so much going on throughout the semester, it is easy to forget about assignments and deadlines. Having a calendar or even a planner that you can easily see can help you remember deadlines. 2. Use your phone for reminders. If you find it hard to remember dates even after you put them on your calendar, use the reminders feature on your phone. You can set it for a specific date and time. 3. Set goals. Setting short- and long-term goals is important. Even better is to write these down in a journal. It is usually easier to pursue something that you can track. By making a list of things that you plan to achieve in the semester, you can go back and check things off that you complete as you go. 4. Avoid procrastination. Students hear this every semester but still find it hard to avoid. It makes a huge difference when you start to work on assignments weeks or even months ahead of time as opposed to a day or two before they are due. You will have better quality work and avoid stress. 5. Relax In the words of Green Bay Packer’s quarterback Aaron Rodgers, “RELAX.” Keeping a balance between your academic and personal life is important. You will need to have a clear mind to perform at a high level. Make time to go work out; working out first thing in the morning can give you that extra energy boost that you need. Also make time for your friends; go out to eat, to the movies, or to do some other fun activity. Simply staying in on a Friday night could also help you relax. |
A clear mind goes a long way. Keep a balance in
everything you do and you will be successful. Have a great spring semester
everyone!
