Everyone always says college is the best time of your life. I am close to graduation and I completely understand this statement now. The one thing that makes college great is getting involved. There are other perks of college such as picking your schedule and taking naps throughout the day, but in essence getting involved in school is that perfect icing on the cake.
Getting involved on campus is not something you do just to put on your resume. It also helps students become emotionally attached to the school. I can personally attest to this.
My freshman and sophomore year I was not involved. During these two years I was an athlete. My whole life was about sports and I really did not think about getting involved in anything else; plus I did not have time. My only friends were on my team so when I was not with my team I was generally alone. After two years of playing I decided to stop. This was traumatic for me because sports were all I had ever known. I suddenly had more free time and was unsure what to do.
The first organization I joined was CAB (Campus Activities Board). I started to meet new people and expand my network. At this moment I knew I had to get involved more on campus. Two years later, I have made so many friends and have really become connected to Towson. I am graduating soon and I can honestly say I am sad because of the great friendships and connections I will be leaving. I would hate to look back at my time in school and just shrug it off as another milestone in my life because at the end of the day this is supposed to be the greatest time in your life. This is why I suggest everyone get involved. College will mean so much more to you and you will get a well-rounded experience.
